The school
Located in Irene, Centurion, Little Academy Preschool offers preschool education to children between the ages of two and five years old.
Little Academy Preschool was started more than 25 years ago and, over the years, has become somewhat of an institution in Irene.
In 2021, Little Academy Preschool was taken over by mother and daughter Jane Henderson and Kate Marshall, who have been part of the Irene community for many decades. Jane grew up in Irene and attended Irene Primary school, as did Kate.
Both have a passion for children and teaching, having studied education at university and been involved in teaching for many years.
Jane (Teacher Nanna) is a proud mother to three children but an even prouder nanna to seven beautiful grandchildren. Jane has taught for more than 25 years at Irene Primary School, Southdowns College and Midstream College.
Kate is mom to three wonderful little boys. Having started her journey in education at the College of Modern Montessori, she went on to study a Bachelor of Education (early childhood and foundation phase – majoring in English and remedial studies) at the University of Pretoria. Kate taught at the Little Oak Montessori School, Midstream College and Southdowns College. Seeking a change she decided to join the world of business and joined her father’s company in 2013 in the role of business manager.
Kate and Jane have always had the dream of running their own preschool. Setting a firm foundation for children to learn and grow is critical, and even more important is ensuring that children learn in an environment surrounded by love, respect and a feeling of security.
Albert Einstein said: “Play is the highest form of research.” It is a philosophy close to their hearts.
The Little Academy classrooms are bright and spacious, and are well-stocked with everything young children need to thrive.
